There is a leader (typically male) and a follower (typically female) in both Salsa and Bachata dance forms. Latin dancing is like a language. The leader indicates to the follower the next move by gesturing to them through their partner connection (usually hands) and the follower understands the gesture and performs the move. The entire dance is improvised on the spot by the leader, based on the music that’s playing, depending on the repertoire of his moves.
