Salsa

Salsa, a latin dance form which was primarily developed by Puerto Ricns and Cubans living in New York in the late 1960s and early 1970. Since its evolution till date, the popularity of the dance form has been rising. This wildly popular dance was done everywhere in Cuba — in the streets, in parking lots, in clubs, in homes.

This latin dance evolved to accompany Salsa Music which was popularized in the 1960s. As a matter of fact, many of the movements found in salsa dancing originated from earlier forms of Latin dance such as mambo, cha cha cha, and pachanga as well as other dances popular at the time such as swing dance.

What was once a street dance, this latin dance gained more popularity when schools began opening up teaching students how to dance salsa with a set curriculum.

To name a view, one of the early influential instructors in salsa was Eddie Torres who helped to formalize the timing for New York-style salsa, and made the style famous around the world.

Salsa dancing is known to be one of the best dance forms for expressing oneself. It has been widely used across the latin America and Europe to express their culture. When the Salsa culture started to move to different parts of the world, more and more people started learning the dance form due to its huge infulence. As the dance form gained its popularity all over the world, more and more people started learning Salsa.

One of the major reasons for the growing popularity of Salsa dance was that whether you are dancing or watching, it is thrilling. The timing of the dance is “quick, quick, slow.” The dance is best danced to music with a driving beat and no rhythm breaks.

Salsa is one of those dance forms that demands more agility as the moves are quick and smooth. The type of physical agility that a dancer gains through continuous practice of this dance form makes the dancer – flexible, athletic, and offers more control over moves.

The thing that makes Salsa so exciting is that it has numerous merits – from improving body flexibility to building confidence, and improving mental well being. A Salsa dancer not only learns the dance form but also improves body agility, strength and coordination.

Salsa also provides an opportunity to individuals to meet like minded people who have the same interest and make them good about themselves.
